NSJ in the classroom

The New Science Journalism Project is built to integrate the latest online publishing tools that a media specialist needs to publish a news report.

We highly recommend using the NSJ Project as a part of your course work. The NSJ is a worldwide online newsroom and we are encouraging universities across the globe to join in and report on local science news. Students can work on a news article, film reportage, science cartoons or podcasts to publish a science news report.

It is truly a collaborative approach where, although you are working on local news within your college or community, publishing in a collective newsroom enables a greater ability to share and learn from other globally-local experiences.

For example, we have a young reporter from Zambia who has been able to team up with a reporter from Uganda to dig deeper into a common 'local' topic. Each journalist can bring knowledge together and bring new possible angles for a story to the local community.

The complexities of the world around us require a committed effort to digging even deeper into the knowledge base and drawing information together via intelligent and meaningful processes.

The NSJ is truly a peer-to-peer learning experience that can foster an exponential learning curve for young science communicators worldwide.

It may be that your university does not have a focused science journalism course. In this case, the NSJ is an ideal tool for young media reporters to extend their specific skills in reporting science news.
